Taking a Taxi, Bus or Minivan from Suvarnabhumi Airport
Suvarnabhumi Airport provides many types of public transportation such as Limousine, Car Rental, Shuttle Bus, Airport Express Bus, Intercity Bus (Transport Company Bus), Don Meuang Airport Shuttle bus, BMTA Public Bus and BMTA Airconditioned Van.
These options are in addition to private transfers and the airport train service. For many passengers, the most useful of the services below will be the free Suvarnabhumi to Don Meuang Airport Shuttle bus. This bus is for passengers who have connecting flights at the other airport.
This is a 24-hour service with various types of cars (Toyota, BMW, Mercedes etc) and is operated by the Airport Authority of Thailand (AOT). Fares are is calculated according to distance. Limousine Service Counters can be found in the Baggage Claim area and in the Arrival Hall – near exit A,B and C.
Prices for these limousines are higher than for a normal private transfer. Do not confuse this service with the public taxis, which are also far cheaper to use.
Public taxis operate around the clock, 24 hours a day at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Fares are based on the distance travelled plus a 50 Baht airport surcharge. Passengers also have to pay the expressway tolls ( if they prefer the driver to use the expressway rather than the slower, normal roads into the city.)
To take a public taxi, go to taxi rank located near Gate 4 and Gate 7 on the First Floor (Level 1) of the terminal building.
Simply press the button on one of the automated machines and a taxi will be allocated for you. Walk to the bay number which is marked on your ticket. Give the driver the ticket and tell them where you want to go. Note that there is a separate machine for larger taxis that are suitable for 3 or 4 people with suitcases.
In case of any difficulty there are manned service counters located near the machines. Staff can help with any problems explaining your destination to drivers or using the machines.
Car hire is available 24 hours / day and is offered by numerous operators. The Car Rental Service Counters are located on the arrivals level (2nd Floor0 of the terminal building between Entrances 7 and 8. All major car hire companies are represented, including SIXT, Avis, Budget, Thrifty, Thai Rentacar, Bizcar Rental and Chic Car Rent. Car hire rates at Suvarnabhumi Airport are from around 900 Baht/day.
Free Suvarnabhumi Airport to Don Meuang Shuttle Bus
Bangkok has two airports, Suvarnabhumi and Don Meuang. Suvarnabhumi (BKK) is mainly for international flights. Don Meaung (DMK) is used by budget carriers, mostly for domestic flights. In order to make it easy for passengers to transit between the two airports, a free bus service is provided. Journey time is around 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic.
To take the free shuttle bus to Don Meuang Airport, go to the counter located outside Entrance 3 on the Arrivals (Level 2) of the passenger terminal. Buses run from 05:00 to midnight daily. They depart at 12 minute intervals during busy periods of the day ( from 08:00 to 11:00 & 16:00 to19:00 ) and at 30 minute intervals at other times.
